Allergy is the most common chronic disease in the U.S. About 50 million Americans suffer from one or more allergies. Having allergies can be very uncomfortable and make it hard to do everyday things. In severe cases, allergies can also result in rashes, hives, asthma, sinus problems and even death.

Although, there are no cure for allergies but there are plenty of ways to prevent the allergies symptoms from occurring by avoiding the most common allergens.

Tips for reducing the exposure to common allergens can be given as below
  • If you’re allergic to pollen, keep windows closed when pollen season’s at its peak or wear a pollen mask when mowing grass. Try 3M N95 respiratory mask, which keeps pollen and dust mites out of your mouth and nose.
  • Use special covers to seal your pillows and mattresses if you’re allergic to dust mites.
  • Vacuum your home regularly and use a vacuum cleaner with a High-Efficiency Particulate Air (HEPA) filter, like the Eureka Boss SmartVac because it can remove more dust than ordinary vacuum cleaners.
  • Install an air purifier with a HEPA filter in your room.
  • Choose wood or hard vinyl floor coverings instead of a carpet.
  • If you’re allergic to foods, always checking the labels on foods for the list of ingredients and asking questions about ingredients when you’re eating outside. (Find out more about how to prevent food allergies).
  • Keep pets outside as much as possible or limit them to areas where you spend the most time, such as the bedroom and living room.
  • Wipe surfaces with a damp, clean cloth, as dry dusting can spread the allergens further.
  • If you’re allergic to mold, avoid damp areas, such as basements, and keep bathrooms and other mold-prone areas clean and dry.
  • Buy a humidifier to keep indoor humidity low, as mold and dust mites increase in high humidity area. Be sure to clean the humidifier regularly to avoid mold build-up.
  • If you have allergies, treating the allergies and carefully avoiding things that cause allergic reactions can prevent allergies in the future.
