How to Get Rid of Skin Tags

A skin tag is a tag of skin attached to the surface of the skin through a small, narrow stalk (pedunculated) that can develop on the neck, underarms, beneath the breasts, torso, eyelids, and groin.

The condition is also known as acrochordon, cutaneous tag, Templeton skin tag, soft fibroma, fibroma molluscum, fibroepithelial polyp, and so on. It is a benign condition and does not cause symptoms.

Thus, skin tags tend to be harmless and painless. However, they may be irritated or may even burst when rubbed or scratched repeatedly. These soft skin growths are generally flesh or brown colored, and are typically the size of a grain.

It is believed that skin tags mostly develop due to skin rubbing against skin, clothing, jewelry, etc. Genetic predisposition can also increase one’s chances of developing skin tags.

Plus, in some people, they occur for no apparent reason. In addition, middle-aged individuals are more susceptible to this problem.

Obese people, too, are prone to skin tags because they have excess folds of skin. Other factors that make one prone to skin tags are diabetes, pregnancy, Crohn’s disease, HPV, etc.

How to Get Rid of Skin Tags

Here are 8 remedial measures that you can adopt to remove and treat skin tags. Though uncommon still, at times, they tend to fall off on their own. Furthermore, being a benign condition, it is not necessary to treat this problem, unless the skin tags become irritated or create a cosmetic concern.
  • Cutting Off Skin Tags
  • Tying Off Skin Tags
  • The Band-Aid Trick
  • Castor Oil and Baking Soda
  • Apple Cider Vinegar
  • Tea Tree Oil
  • Bloodroot
  • Cosmetic Treatment
Small skin tags can be cut off or removed using a pair of sharp scissors, blade, or nail clippers. Make sure you sterilize the tool with rubbing alcohol or hydrogen peroxide beforehand. Besides, you may want to apply ice or a little alcohol on the affected area before cutting off the skin tag to prevent infection. After cutting off the base of the skin tag, compress the area to avoid bleeding.

Skin tags that cannot be cut off can be tied off with a dental floss, thread, suture, etc. This method is called litigation. You may have to keep the stalk of the unsightly skin growth tied for a few days until it turns darker and eventually falls off because of lack of blood supply. Rest assured that removing a skin tag is not going to cause more of these benign tumors to grow.

Puncture a vitamin E capsule with a pin or needle and apply the oil on the affected area. Next, put a band aid on the skin tag to block the blood supply so that it falls off within a few days. You could also use the common household duct tape in the same way.

Prepare a paste by mixing baking soda in castor oil. Smear it on the affected area and cover it with a bandage. Follow this remedy for a few weeks to get rid of skin tags naturally at home. If you do not like the smell of this paste, then you may add a few drops of a fragrant essential oil like lemon or orange essential oil.

Apple cider vinegar is highly beneficial for a number of skin problems including skin tags. Soak a wash cloth in warm water and put in on the affected area. Next, remove the warm washcloth and dab a cotton ball soaked in apple cider vinegar. Finally, cover the skin tag with a band aid.

Applying tea tree oil once or twice a day for a few weeks disinfects the affected area and helps dry out the skin tag from the inside. Those who have a sensitive skin may dilute tea tree oil in water or some other base oil such as coconut oil, jojoba oil, and so on.

Bloodroot, which is native to the United States and Canada, works as a potent salve for the treatment of skin tags, moles, and warts. It requires applying bloodroot paste on the affected area (it should not touch healthy skin) and then covering it with a bandage.
Change the bandage a few times and a way, and while reapplying, dab a cotton ball soaked in hydrogen peroxide, on the affected area. Do not use this therapy for more than 2-3 days. Application of this herb, however, is usually advised against because it tends to kill the tissues. If you are still interested in healing skin tags with bloodroot paste, make sure you consult your doctor beforehand.

Like warts, skin tags can be gotten rid of with the help of cosmetic procedures such as freezing with liquid nitrogen (cryosurgery), burning off with a cautery pen (cauterization), cosmetic surgery, etc.

Tips to Prevent Skin Tags

Though this problem cannot be prevented altogether still, you can follow certain suggestions to reduce your chances of developing skin tags.

For instance, you should keep your blood sugar levels under control. As skin tags are more common in overweight and obese individuals, strive to maintain a healthy weight and reduce flab

How To Get Rid Of Blackheads Naturally

Beauty of a woman is very much affected due to blackheads. Millions of women want to get rid of blackheads. Given below are some natural remedies to get rid of blackheads.Blackheads are ugly dark plugs of hardened oil and dead skin cells that occur on your face or any other parts of your skin. Blackheads appear because of excess skin oil secreted from your body which accumulates on your external part of your skin. When it combines with bacteria and dust etc, ugly spots are formed known as blackhead. Blackheads are caused due to pollution, usage of contraceptives, stress, make-up kept for long duration, bad diet etc.

The best way to get rid of blackheads is to get rid of the excess oil, dust particles and other impurities from your outer layer of skin which can be done by washing or cleaning it properly.

If you clean your face or other parts of the skin with suitable soap, dead cells and other impurities will be removed. Thus the formation of blackheads will be reduced. You can use combination of lime juice, almond oil and glycerin. This combination is very effective in curing blackheads if you apply it on your face regularly. After washing your face with warm water, soak some cotton with almond oil.

Put a small amount of toothpaste on the oily cotton. Then rub the cotton over the affected part. Do it regularly to remove blackheads. You can also do the same process with olive oil in place of almond oil. Rubbing the mixture of salt and lime juice too works in removing blackheads.

Honey is effective in giving you relief from blackheads. You need to apply/rub a little warm honey on the affected parts. But whatever you apply on your face, you should clean it with tap water after a few minutes.

Water is very effective in removing blackheads. It should be used externally as well as internally to remove blackheads. Water eliminates toxins which get deposited beneath your skin layer and spoils your beauty. Drink plenty of water so that elasticity of your skin is maintained and blackheads get removed.

To remove blackheads you need to improve your blood circulation which you can do successfully through exercise. Also let your skin get proper oxygen and breathe freely; so do not put make-up as long as you have blackhead problem.

Apple Cider Vinegar Mole Removal

Since time immemorial Apple Cider Vinegar or ACV has been used as one of the most effective treatments for moles and warts. It works effectively in the treatment of skin growths. ACV has been used not only for the treatment of moles but has also been used as a weight loss solution.
This particular vinegar is actually a sour tasting ingredient that is specifically meant for kitchen purposes. Some people experimented with ACV for the treatment of moles and found the result to be unbelievably effective.

Generally there are three types of mole removal methods namely, surgical methods, over the counter medicines and mole removal home remedies. Depending on the size of the mole, its color and the danger it poses to your health, the dermatologist will tell you which one would be the best treatment. And yes it is essential to discuss about it with your doctor before you take up any type of treatment.

For the Apple Cider Vinegar mole removal you need the following things:

  • Apple cider vinegar
  •  Cotton balls
  •  Band aid strip
Take a cotton ball and soak it in the apple cider vinegar. Then place the soaked cotton on top of the mole and put the band aid strip on it, to keep it sticking for longer period. Repeat this process atleast three times a day. Replace it with new cotton balls soaked in vinegar. Those who wish to remove protruding moles must see the result after two weeks. It acts fast and makes the mole shrink, reducing its size and finally layering it off the skin.

ACV may also have certain side effects as it is acidic in nature. If proper care is not taken while applying, it may burn the surrounding skin and may lead to the formation of dark spots. So make sure to apply an ample amount of Vaseline on the skin around the moles before you dab the vinegar soaked cotton on the moles. This will prevent the vinegar from spreading to the skin.

A number of people have tried the apple cider vinegar treatment for mole removal. Majority of them found the ACV treatment effective whereas a handful of them claim that the treatment did remove the moles but it came back after a couple of weeks.

However, apple cider vinegar does not prove effective to all the people. Different people have different skin types which react differently. Yet people should not believe the statement that, ‘all sorts of home remedies for mole removal may not work’. But always make sure to consult your dermatologist before you go in for any home remedy for the removal of moles.

Apple cider vinegar cannot always help with the removal of moles. There are certain limitations. For instance, if the mole has turned to melanoma then it needs to be removed from the underlying cells. Confirm the size of the tumor through a biopsy test. Yet removal of the mole cannot assure you that the mole will not recur. While going out always protect your skin from excessive exposure to sunlight to prevent moles and melanoma from growing back to your skin.

Also, you should be well aware of the warning signs of melanoma (cancerous moles) for early diagnosis, so that proper treatment could be considered as early as possible.

Ways to Get Rid of Age Spots

Check out our list of popular and natural remedies to get rid of age spots. Find out what the causes and treatment options are for these common discolored skin spots.

Age spots are the flat, brown or black skin spots that are a common appearance on the arms, back and face of people who are over the age of 40. This is probably why it's called age spots. Light skin people are at a higher risk of developing age spots. Younger people may also develop liver spots due to heredity.

Regular use of tanning lamps or tanning beds may also cause age spots.

Age spots or liver spots and known medically as solar lentigines are signs that the skin was once regularly exposed to the sun without skin protection. Even though it is also called liver spots, it has nothing to do with the liver or liver disease. Age spots are caused by over production of melanin or the pigment in the epidermis when the skin is exposed to the sun. It does this to protect the deeper layers of the skin and after some time, the pigmentation will gradually show up.

These skin spots are harmless and aren't painful. But they do affect appearance especially when they show up on the face. You need only be concerned if the skin spots show rapid changes in size, have unusual or uneven color and are irregular in shape because those are the early signs of melanoma or skin cancer.

Cosmetic treatments to remove age spots include chemical peel, dermabrasion, freezing and laser therapy. Cheaper methods to get rid of age spots include the use of over the counter bleaching cream and natural remedies such as herbal extracts that contain glycolic acid, hydroquinone and salicylic acid. Using home remedies to get rid of age spots requires consistent application and will take a long time to fade compared to cosmetic treatments.

On top of the list of natural remedies to get rid of age spots is uva ursi or bearberry which is the leaf extract of uva ursi shrubs. Scientific studies found that uva ursi contains hydroquinone. Many bleaching cream use 2% of it as an ingredient because it is believed that hydroquinone is effective in fading aging spots, even skin tone and reduces the overproduction of melanin.

Glycolic acid gel peel and glycolic cream are two of the popular home treatments to get rid of age spots as well as improving fine lines and wrinkles and acne. Some species of sugar cane contains this acid and this is one of the reasons why some people use white cane sugar blended with lemon juice and avocado oil or aloe vera gel for liver spots removal.

When glycolic acid is applied on the skin, it will penetrate deep inside and will stimulate collagen formation. This will result in the fading of discoloration and even skin tone.

Researchers discovered that the active ingredient called sterolins in avocado oil has the potential to reduce age spots and maintain the moisture of the skin. Avocado oil has the ability to improve collagen production and this is especially helpful for aging skin.

Castor oil which is the extract from castor beans is another alternative that you can use to get rid of age spots. This herbal extract has many healing properties and is used as treatment for various conditions and diseases.
If you are taking birth control pills, try to stop using it and notice if it helps remove the liver spots.

To prevent age spots or its reappearance once you have them removed, avoid direct UV ray especially between 10am to 4 pm. If you must go out, protect your skin by applying sunscreen with SPF 30. And try to wear clothes that protect your skin especially your arms, back and legs.

Dry Hair Home Remedies

Try any one of these dry hair home remedies, change a few of your daily hair care routines and regain your hairs' natural healthy shine.

One of the causes of dry hair is the result of using a shampoo or hair dye that contains harsh chemicals. Daily shampooing isn't healthy either if you have dry scalp. Too much exposure to chlorine in a swimming pool can also cause dry hair. Other reasons that contribute to dry hair and split ends are perm treatments and too much heat from styling tools such as curling irons, blow dryers and straighteners.

If you have an extremely oily scalp, it's wise to shampoo daily or else it will cause dandruff. But if you have dry hair, shampooing daily will damage it further. This is especially so if the shampoo contains chemicals because it will remove the natural oils from your scalp.

One of the best home remedies for dry hair is to shampoo every three days or more. If you feel that it's dirty, what you can do is wash only with water and then use a conditioner. When you wash, avoid using your fingernails to scrub. Dry hair that is already brittle will break easily and may cause you to experience thinning or hair loss.

Choose the right shampoo and conditioner. Those that contain either or a combination of aloe vera, jojoba oil, lavender, olive oil and rosemary are suitable for dry hair.

Avoid using styling tools such as the dryer, hot rollers or straightener. The heat will  cause further breakage and damage it. If you must use a dryer, set it at a low setting.

Using the right kind of brush is also important when it comes to the treatment of dry hair. The wrong brush can cause breakage while brushing. It's even better if you don't brush while it's wet.

Another way to treat dry hair is to apply hot oil treatment once a week. Heating up the oil and leaving it on your hair for about 20 minutes can help restore it.

When you go out in the sun, use a hat or scarf to cover your head. Applying a leave-in conditioner with SPF hair protection will help a lot.

Until it is manageable again, try to avoid getting a perm or hair coloring treatment.

Using olive oil is one of the easiest and the best dry hair home remedies. Apply the oil thoroughly right to the tips of the hair shaft. Cover your head with a shower cap and leave it on overnight.

What you need to do next is apply your shampoo and massage it in until it lathers without adding any water. You then rinse the lather with water. Shampoo again and rinse and then apply your conditioner. Other herbal oils that may be effective as dry hair home remedies are avocado oil, coconut oil, jojoba oil, neem oil, rosemary oil and sweet almond oil.

Mayonnaise is another of the popular dry hair home remedies that may restore your hair. All you need to do is apply natural mayonnaise on your hair and scalp, cover your head and leave it on for at least half an hour. After that, you shampoo and rinse.

Another one of the traditional dry hair home remedies is to use egg whites. Mix an egg with lukewarm water and apply it. Leave it for awhile and rinse with water without shampooing.

Ways to Get Rid of Blackheads

Need to get rid of blackheads? Try these blackhead remedies and tips for removing those unsightly blemishes. Also learn about blackhead prevention and causes.

Blackheads or open comedo is a type of acne. Comedo is a word used to describe an oil duct that is clogged with oil and dead skin cells. When the comedo is opened and exposed on the surface of the skin, it appears as a tiny black spot. That spot is a blackhead and it is black in color because of its exposure to oxygen.

A whitehead is used to describe a closed comedo in which it appears as a white spot covered with the skin.

The possible causes of blackheads are over-production of oil or sebum and dead skin cells which plug the hair follicles. Because the sebum cannot move out to the surface of the skin due to the plugging, it combines with the dead cells to form a soft plug and will bulge. Once the soft plug breaks open from the skin, oxidation will cause it to become black.

Popping Blackheads

It is very common to see almost everyone squeezing blackheads using their fingers. If it isn't done properly, it can cause infection, inflammation and scarring.

If you insist on popping blackheads, put a warm wash cloth on it or use facial steam before doing it. It helps soften the comedones and it becomes easier to remove them. But you must ensure that your fingers are clean and then apply an antiseptic lotion afterwards. This is because after you've opened the pores, bacteria can infect them and cause inflammations. Take zinc supplement to heal the open pores and prevent scarring.

Blackhead Remedies Using Baking Soda

One of the simplest and most effective blackhead remedies is to use baking soda. Baking soda is a natural exfoliating agent and it helps remove dead skin cells. You can use it as a face wash or a facial scrub.

To make your own homemade facial scrub, mix an equal amount of baking soda and water. Take a clean toothbrush and scrub the mixture on your face or affected area in a circular motion and then wash it off. If you want to make a facial mask with baking soda, add 3 parts of it to 1 part of water so that it is thicker. Apply it on your face and leave it to dry before washing it off.

Blackhead Remedies Using Essential Oils

Some essential oils are helpful in eliminating blackheads. Examples are castor oil, clary sage, eucalyptus oil, lavender oil, lemongrass oil and tea tree oil. When applying essential oils on your skin, make sure you mix them with a carrier oil such as almond oil, avocado oil, grapeseed oil or jojoba oil to dilute it and prevent irritation.

To apply the oil, wash your face first. Then, apply the oil on your face with your clean fingers or a cotton pad and massage it lightly in circular motions. You can also mix the oil in your facial cream to loosen the clogged pores.

Natural Facial Peel

One of the benefits of using a facial peel is that it helps draw out the plug in the pores and removes dead skin cells. And salicylic gel peel is one of the most popular over the counter facial peel products. You can make your own facial peel by mixing crushed aspirin and honey. Aspirin contains salicylic acid and if you want to use the herbal alternative, use white willow bark.

You can also make a paste by mixing honey and cinnamon powder. Leave it on your face overnight and wash it off the next morning.

Blackhead Remover Tool

A popular blackhead remover is a stainless steel tool with loops at both ends. Just like using your fingers, the tool must be cleaned or sanitized before using to prevent bacterial infection.

To use it, you can either press it gently on the spots or drag it slowly around the areas where the open comedones are especially on the sides of the nose. Once you have finished popping the blackheads, you must wash your face again using a mild cleanser or disinfectant. You can make your own homemade disinfectant by mixing apple cider vinegar, crushed aspirin and water. After washing and treating the pores, apply moisturizer.

You can also use a blackhead eraser or a blackhead eliminating daily scrub.

Another blackhead removal product that you can try as one of your blackhead remedies is to use deep cleansing pore strips. What the cleansing pore strip does is suck out the clogged pores and gets rid of the blackheads.

Blackhead Prevention
  • Wash your face daily and exfoliate once or twice a week to remove dead cells and loosen clogged pores.
  • Use a natural moisturizer after you have cleaned your face.
  • Avoid touching your face with your fingers throughout the day to avoid bacterial infections.
  • Eat a well balanced diet and lots of fresh fruits and vegetables, drink at least 8 glasses of water a day and eat foods or take dietary supplements that strengthen your body's immune system.
